That's Life! Fast Fiction

A quarterly mag that publishes short stories from 100 to 2,800 words in length, the tone is lighthearted and family oriented. Romance is popular as is a spooky talk or not-too-gory thriller; and a clever twist in the tale is always welcomed. This is a great way to get started and pays generously. Look for the submission guidelines here.

The People's Friend

An oldie but a goodie!

The 'Friend' normally accepts stories between 1000 and 4000 words. Short, short stories, from 400 to 1000 words, for their occasional complete-on-a-page fiction, are also considered.

Stories with older characters are, obviously, important but readers of the People's Friend also enjoy stories with up-to-date, young, romantic themes as well as those that are light-hearted and humorous. For more information on submitting material to 'The Friend' please visit here.

Womans Day

Most Australian women are familiar with the Womans Day, which has entertained us for decades with news on celebrities, royalty, local heroes and much more. The good news for short story writers is that Womans Day accepts submissions for short stories that are suitable for women of all ages. Romance, mystery and even the occasional ghost story are popular and the preferred length is 2000 words. For more information, visit here
